Commuting - I did it!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I haven't ridden for about 17 years and recently purchased a bike with the idea of working my way up to commuting two or three times per week.
My first ride in was this Monday -- 26 miles round trip -- and boy does it feel good.
I wanted to post here to say thank you to everyone here for the motivation. I've been reading and learning so much from you all. Cheers!

26 miles is a lot to jump right into. Great job!
Fun huh?

@AdamDZ - Nothing like I expected. I thought I'd be sore on Tues/Wed but apart from some very mild discomfort in my hips, I'm ready to go again. I did sleep very well that night though.
@szehui - I followed the AM commute route you shared with me on ridewithgps.com almost turn by turn, continuing down Grove Ave. into the city. What a great ride. The bridge over the interstate on Skipwith was the worst part of my ride. Smooth sailing the rest of the way. Thanks again for helping me plot that course!
Good for you! I remember when I first rode a bike after many years I was in pain for the next few days. It was about 9 mile ride. I bought a bike from a friend in Manhattan and had to ride it home in Queens.
Good stuff! Yeah, Skipwith is kind of scary but there's not much of a way around it.
I met a colleague here that rides the second half of my route in to the office - looks like we'll have our own little mini-group ride going here soon enough.
