I am looking to get a new mountain bike for my fiancee...it will be her first Mt bike and I am looking to get one in the $600-$800 range...my criteria includes: front suspension, as good as components as possible for that price range mainly because I don't want to have to replace/upgrade it for a long time...thanks!

By the way if you really wanna splurge on your fiancee the new FSRxc women's model is basically last years StumpJumpter chassis and is sweeeeeettt sweet. Expect to pay 1100-1200 tho =(
I would say skip the women's model. Most women are more comfortable on the Men's model.
get her a comfy seat. You dont want a hard seat turning her off from the whole biking thing.. maybe even a susp post..?

I opted to get the Men's Hardrock over the women's due to better components and wanting disk brakes. I'm 5'1 and the Men's 13 inch worked better for me than the WSD model.

Giant Rainier has always been ranked fairly well, although the geometry is definitely different than on the Rockhopper. You might consider Gary Fisher bikes if you plan on doing more of the long fast rides rather than the more difficult, technical trails.
