Touring - Has anyone ridden Madonna dl Ghisallo from Belligio?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am considering doing the Madonna de Ghisallo in September. I just saw a video and I am reconsidering. The video shows a very narrow road with no place to go. Walls on both sides.

I am not sure what route they took but the normal route is from Bellegio but there is at least one other road. Has anyone made this ride from Bellegio? If so, how bad is it really? I imagine drivers are used to seeing cyclists on this road but you never know when you might run into a tourist (or one runs into you ). :)

i rode there from near bellagio in 2007 (http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=RrzKj&page_id=58515&v=89). there was a ton of bicyclists. i imagine that bicyclists are a common sight, and that local drivers are used to their presence. i didn't think traffic was especially dangerous.

edit: the pic of the church shows only a small fraction of the bikes parked there, if that gives you any idea of how common bicycles are on that bit of road.

Thanks jabantik00,

Did yo leave the bags in town? That is my plan, then come back and pick them up.

i took my stuff because i wasn't staying in town. some parts of the climb are fairly difficult. you might enjoy it more if you leave your bags, but you probably have done more difficult climbs with your stuff.
