Need a bike for college. Straight from clist. Seller wants $350. How much should I offer?

••Vintage PEUGEOT 54cm SINGLE SPEED Road Bike ••

Fits approximately 5'5 thru 5'10.
~31.25" standover height.

42:16 gear ratio
This is a great all around ration with much versitility.
NOTE: This is a single speed freewheel setup [you can coast], not a fixed gear. It can be a fixed gear with the addition of a track wheelset.

New chain, new grips, tuned, lubed.
There are many scratched in the finish, but the frame is straight and true.

This bike is FULLY FUNCTIONAL, TUNED, and READY TO RIDE.

Thanks. Admittedly, I was kinda tempted to just buy it out of desperation. Not anymore, lol.

This made me laugh... (the versatility part on a SS bike).

+1. With 12 speeds this is probably worth around $150. Now less than that.

I offered the seller $230 last night, before I came here. I haven't got a response back.
This ones a lost cause.

In person, or via email? Negotiating via email usually never works.

Email. Totally agree, but I figured that I'd haggle when I would pick it up. lol.
The price came down to $300 on the new listing. I've given up on this one though, mainly because I don't want SS. Going to go check my local goodwill.

Smart, thrift stores and garage sales tend to have the best deals. You will usually have to do some work on those bikes, as the reason people dump them is that they haven't ridden it in years. And keep an eye on C/L. Good deals do pop up there, but you have to move really fast.

Thanks for the tips wrk101. You were a huge help.
I might be checking out a Bianchi today. Really hope this is it.

Where are you located at college? Many of the bigger cities have bike cafe's that sell used fixed up bikes for next to nothing. We have an older UO-8 right now for $100 rtr. We have a bike library that you can check out a bike for 6 months for a fee; if you check it back in w/i the 6 months, you get your money back, if you don't we keep the money, you keep the bike.
