I work in a small 12 person architecture office in downtown Indianapolis. We are always exploring simple ways to "green up" the office. I have recently fixed up a couple of vintage cruisers for my parents to ride for fitness and just heard about the concept of having an "Office Bicycle" for running errands, picking up food, etc.... Distance and daycare/school drop off of children prevents most of us from commuting by bicycle, but getting a few bikes off Craigslist and fixing them up for office use sounds like a great idea. We have access to a vinyl cutter, so we could make some interesting graphics for the tubes. Curious if others have worked at places with office bikes?

I also googled "Office Bike" and learned about a nice double meaning.:)

If its truly going to be an office bike, I recommend a folding bike. You can stow it under your desk. :)

I didn't know about joy rides on the office bike - thanks for the linguistic tip.

We don't have anything like an office bike - the meaning you intended - where I work, but it would be fantastic if we did. I'm in an office park at the edge of a mall, and half the acreage around here is devoted to parking spaces. Which ironically means it's a longer walk from any place to anyplace else. And most people simply drive.

Hafta admit, that's where my mind went on seeing the title of the thread. And while I would never use such a term myself of course, :innocent: I was thinking more along the lines of 'buy a couple of drinks, see where it leads.'

Yep, I'm probably going to have trouble getting feedback based on the meaning I was looking for.

We have an office bicycle.

It was a stray 1980's GT mt. bike that spent at least 1 year in the woods before I towed it 4 miles into the office on flat tires.

One night, during a software roll-out, my wife came by the office and whipped up some "DEATHMOBILE 4.(skull)" graphics and a skull for the head tube while I taped up and took apart the bike for refinishing.

I got 2 cans of $1 spray paint and painted the wheels/frame up rat rod style. The tires were pretty much rotted off, but I found a $5 pair of NEW whitewalls on the back wall of a sporting goods store a few months after the initial build. Grips were rotting off, so I wrapped the bars with some of my white hockey tape. Everything that was broken on the bike I simply removed (sometimes with a hack saw.) There are about 6 functional gears in the back. Couple of skull valve caps and a couple of skull license plate bolts add a little subtle style. So we're talkin' about a $10 bike here.

I'm watching for a free/$1 shorty chrome rear fender for it. I know, Chrome don't get ya home, but I think it would add a little more style to the bike.

I was thinking the OP meant more of a shared bicycle, for anyone in the office to use to go grab Chinese food, etc., in which case it wouldn't be stowed.
