So was the title a clever play on spelling? Missori (Misery)

But to answer the ultimate question. I reside in Missouri.

I'm north of KC. Went to Lee's Summit to ride a pre-MS150 tune up ride today. Mr. Brooks (Trek 520) did quite fine. We only rode about 52 miles due to the heat, route confusion, and wrecks. But our group had a good time. Crystal city is where?

I'm glad to see more people from Misery online here. Three of us from the Cameron Bicycle Club did the Century loop at the Bike Missouri MS-150 Saturday. Ray-Pec high School to Sedalia with an added loop south and back to make 100 miles. One had to leave early Saturday evening and the other two of us made about 12 more miles on Sunday and were too tired to continue. I will have way more base miles next year and hope to complete 180 miles. We hear Missouri and Kansas are going to do a route from Overland Park to Topeka instead of the KC Sedalia route next year. That will bring new views for sure.

The MS150 is great. We are going to do a new course next year from Overland Park to Lawrence and back. I don't know the exact mileage but I think it has been worked out. It is the most organized ride I have ever done. I wonder how the Kansas folks will treat us Southern boys. At least we don't have to worry about Quantrell making trouble. Welcome aboard. Take care. The guys rode Cameron to Hamilton, to Kingston, to Polo Mo. Saturday. They ate at a Cafe and then rode back to Cameron. The ride on 13 highway was successful in finding out the roadside conditions. There were no shoulders to ride on to speak of. 13 Won't get you to the Katy from Hamilton safely. Good to hear from you Momule and XianRL.

8 AM, Cameron YMCA. We went to 13 to Kingston with some side roads, To Hamilton and back for 44 miles. Ate brunch at the four way stop on old 36 in Hamilton. Great place to stop for a meal. The owner is bike friendly. You Missourians or any one else is invited to explore NW MO on Saturday mornings by bike, about 50 miles at a time. Any more of those from Missouri here???

Oh I feel for you brother. My wife is pretty understanding about my collection. She actually goes with me on road trips to buy bikes I've found on CL and thru other sources.

Mr E. I'm quite sad to see him close. I keep on wanting to go there but haven't made it. We have no LBS. I go to Biscari Brothers in Liberty. They are building up a front wheel with dynamo hub for my Trek 520. Should be on the bike Friday. You guys that can see Misery from your house can be counted as cousins. Take care all. Blues Frog

Going to be in Rocheport 9:30 to 10:00 on Saturday morning. Oct. 30. Will ride to Hartsburg on the KATY Trail, eat, then ride back to Rocheport. Probably at a moderate pace. Maybe we will see some Bike Forums people there. God Bless Y'all. Blues Frog PS Did it and was great. Went through the tunnel first to say I've been there. Then turned toward H'burg and to a late lunch at Dotty's. Back to Rocheport and met Brett Durfur. Turns out he is a cousin of a church friend of mine. He also autographed my copy of "The Complete KATY TRAIL GUIDEBOOK". Brett is a most personable and enterprising young man. I wish him success as the new editor of the "Missouri Conservationist". The guidebook was helpful in our decision on where to eat. If you have a chance hit the trail do so. It was great. All the others on the trail were polite and careful riders. You would think a railroad bed would be the easiest but there is no coasting so you can get a workout if you wish. I prefered to enjoy the fall scenery and the historic points of interest. Later all you fans of Missouri.

Passage4 and Rider98Glide welcome. Good to hear from you. I saw lots of Mo license plates at the trainhead in Rocheport last Saturday. Even some furrin' plates like KS and IL. I am glad to see so many folks from my home state in the touring boards. I started out commuting with no intention of touring. Just for fitness, stress relief, and to enjoy the outdoors daily. But I am now outfitting for some multiday tours. Good luck Missourians. We could look at a get together one day. God Bless y'all.

Is everyone busy with Christmas preparations and riding their bikes? I know I am.

Shopping is almost done, bike projects are in progress, one bike is on the trainer, one is outfitted for winter riding and was getting a fair number of miles on the wheels ... until this weekend when the temperatures plummeted and the snow arrived in Liberty! Last day of teaching is Friday and I'm hoping for some moderate global warming to kick in for a week or so...

I commute in this weather so I ride all the week and some Saturday club rides as well. The cold is OK if you cover your skin for the most part. Don't wear an excess of clothing and generate lots of sweat. Good to hear from lots of folks from misery. Merry Christmas.

What can possibly make you say that? Are you from MO or just contemplating move here because of your wife's job possibility?

Well, the former mayor of Columbia, Darwin Hindman, was a serious bike advocate. Under him, more bike lanes got put in place, but sadly the lanes were put where people can still park. Hindman was well liked by students and most cyclists.

Nevertheless, if you're near downtown CoMO biking is ideal. There are trails here that offer some good rides and decent scenery (MKT, Katy and routes to nearby wineries). I'd say most drivers are tolerant, but I've been harassed by students more than any other group of drivers. Since it's a small city/town, you can ride at off peak hours and avoid the traffic.

I don't think "terrably un friendly" (which calls for a dictionary) is a fair assessment of all of Missouri. Compared to the suburbs of St. Louis where I lived Columbia is far more friendly. But hey, every area has its bike friends and bike foes.

Check out this (http://www.columbiatribune.com/news/2010/mar/27/hindmans-bike-legacy-reaches-far/), this (http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/ParksandRec/Parks/MKT_Trail/), that (http://www.columbiatribune.com/news/2009/aug/05/give-new-bike-law-a-chance/#), here (http://www.bikekatytrail.com/)and this (http://www.pednet.org/newsroom/archives/2009/bicycle-harassment-ordinance-passed.asp).

I have been going to MO all my life, most of my family is around Lebanon. Never saw one person on a bicycle other than kids in the driveway. Compared to Oregon and California (where I grew up) missouri seems like it would not be conducive to riding bikes. To be fair, never been to most of the state. Perhaps Columbia is much better than what I've seen.
