General Cycling Discussion - Which bicycle motor should I get for my bike? Zap? Do they work?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I want to get a decent motor for my bicycle. Do they work? What are the top motors, how long do they last, and how fast can you go with them?
I run two motors on my bike. Brand name is Quads, check em out.
I can get up to 30mph on the flats.

Yeah you won't see them online but just go into your LBS and ask for them.
Quite popular, and pretty cheap

I must have an older model of the Quads. I only hit 30 on downhills...

I think that you should post this in the Electric Bikes forum.
Yes.
I roll with an Ezee front hub motor, I have heard good things about Currie motors, I have also heard of Bionx motors.
I have had mine for a little over 18months now.
Mine tops out around 20 mph.
I am looking for a super durable one that has a long battery life. Is Quads still the way to go?

Hush, Ron.
They've got a live one.
Quads are definitely the way to go. Mine aren't the greatest, but I got them from my dad. I wish I got my mom's, hers make the bike go fast.

I must have the same model as you.

I've seen some last more than 80 years.

I'm actually the first member of my family to get serious use out of the Quads for bikes, but now I've introduced everyone.
Mine are a little finicky, but I think that's an articulation issue on my end.

I'd like to have your moms quads too....
I use Quads on both my recumbent bikes. So far, I like Quads.

Forget the Zap motor. I would avoid cheap Chinese gas motor kits as well. Go to some of the links above.
I heard that Quads are the original bicycle motor, first used in the 19th century...any truth to this?

No. the new kid on the block is a powerful acceleration motor called Frankencalves which is Irish-German technology.
