Northern California - What are the boundries

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Being new here and all (and crappy at doing searches...) I'm not sure where the boundries are for Nor Cal and So Cal...
Being in Fresno, darn near in the frigging middle of the state, I don't know if I need to post in NorCal or SoCal...
Not that anything is going on around here anyway lol...

You can post in either. No worries.

So us border straddlers have to bounce back and forth trying to keep in touch with other riders? :(

Monterey and straight east. I don't know where Fresno fits on that map.

Being from southern California, I would say Fresno belongs in the northern California section. SLO is already borderline, but usually still considered southern California. Fresno is a good bit north of SLO, and closer to SF than LA, so that would be my reasoning for putting it in NorCal. So, yeah..Fresno-specific threads should probably be put in this forum.

Growing up in Santa Barbara and diving up here when my folks bought the ranch... I would have to agree with that logic :p I'm 4 hours from SF (city) and 5 hours from SB, even though we are only a stones throw from the geographic center of the state...
Glad to be a few feet farther away from So Col, I like it less than I do Nor Cal... Not that I like CA much at all... I must get back to Alaska....

Welcome! I would say its where you do most of your riding that matters. If your riding up toward Oakhurst/Mariposa than definitely Norcal, if your riding anywhere south of Kings Canyon/Sequoia than it would probably get better replies in SoCal.

If water from your area is stolen and sent somewhere south of you, you're in Northern California.

SLO seems to be the cut-off. I've done Lighthouse and Wildflower in Creston (which is just outside of San Luis Obispo), and most of the riders are from Southern Cal. For Fresno, I'd say that's Northern Cal.

Fresno really isn't either. Politically/Culturally it is nothing like nor cal, and only like some parts of so cal (orange county?). Not even the surenos or nortenos could really become dominate so Fresno has its own gang that is kind of independent (the bulldogs, they split off of the nortenos in the 80s).
But it probably feels more do able for you to head up the 99 and hook up with the "nor cal east" rides in the sacto area than to head over the grapevine to so cal proper so...welcome to Nor Cal!

It all depends on how one refers to the freeways - if one says "the" as in "on the 5", you are in So Calif. But if the "the" is missing as in "go north on 101", then you are in Northern California.

LOL After living in Buena Park for a few years (Culinary School) and San Jose, everyone talks that way, I just thought that was funny as hell :p

If you can smoke weed on the sidewalk or at a baseball game and nobody looks at you funny, not even the cops, thats Nor Cal.
Do you say "*****in'" or "hella"?

Do you wear socks? If so, northern ca.
I'll be leaving my Bay Area to come visit "greater Fresno" to ride the Bass Lake Double.
