Hybrid Bicycles - Ergon grips or trekking bar as first upgrade to stock flat bar?

A lot of you have used/ are using one or the other, if not both at the same time. Looking for your input on the pros and cons of each.

I've already installed bar ends, but I botched the cutting of the grips doing so. As a result, they are starting to crumble and some places it is down to the metal.

I first upgraded to Ergon GR-2 grips, which were a great improvement over the stock grips. However, my hands were still getting sore on longer rides and my arms were uncomfortable due to the lack of variation in position between the grips and the bar ends. I then upgraded to a trekking/butterfly handlebar and I've been much happier. I find that I am most comfortable for long periods of time with my hands on the side portions of the bar. When I get tired in one position, I can move farther forward or backward on the side parts or I can switch to the front or back flat sections.

My trekking bars were the best upgrade I'd ever made on my Schwinn. I like the geometry of my new Norco so much that I'm not going to use trekking bars on it, but I plan to switch to Ergon GC3's since they provide almost as many hand positions, plus they have the built-in comfort of their excellent grips. BTW I still have a set of their GC2's on one of my other bikes; Ergon makes some great grips!

X2 on the Trekking Bars. Have put them on 3 of the 4 bikes my wife and I ride.

Well, no1mad, Iam glad to see somebody besides me botched cutting the grips to put on end bars.
(New bike by the way) Ordered a new set from lbs(a better color match for the bike anyhow).
Put new grips on.. Measured three times and cut once. I wished I would of seen the Ergon grips w/endbars to start with.
