I will be biking from Trenton to Lambertville with a lady friend who has a single speed. For those familiar with the terrain getting there, could someone please describe? Would a road bike handle this? Will there be hills?

There are some hills along that route that i can remember - - I wouldn't recommend a SS
Trenton to Lambertville is about 15+ miles along the Delaware River. If you follow the river, the terrain will be fairly level to slight uphill going upstream past Washington Crossing to Lambertville. It might be OK on a lightweight single speed if the bike and rider are in decent condition. Most of central Jersey is good road bike territory, some rolling hills but nothing significant. I lived in NJ for 3 years in the 1990s and pedaled all areas of the garden state.

I'd take the D&R Canal towpath weather permitting. It's flat, pretty smooth (crushed gravel mostly) and scenic. Should be an easy ride for any bike (other than pure road bike).
