Classic & Vintage - Vintage wheel question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This is basic, but:
I'm looking for a set of 700c wheels that are 126mm to use with a freewheel.
Can I use a wheel with a Campy rear hub-----I assume the threads were the same back then before cassettes?
The rest of the bike is Suntour/Shimano
Thanks
Maybe. There are three major different threads for rear FreeWheels. French, Italian and English with the latter the most prevelent and the french least prevelent in the USA. the Italian and English are close enough but go to http://sheldonbrown.com/freewheels.html#threading for details.

True, but in 40 years of messing with old bikes I think I've only encountered 1 French threaded freewheel and 1 pair of French threaded Zeus hubs.
126 is a common 70s 6-speed width.

You shouldn't have a problem. I've done the exact thing many times.
