Remove chain Remove the pedal from the opposite side of the chain rings. Remove the nut on the bottom bracket case. Remove washer and bearing (cotter pin?) It's been awhile. Wiggle it out as complete assembly. Installation is in reverse order.

yeah and make sure the 3 piece is a american and not euro ( i think american is usually larger than euro)
and make sure you have the right berrings

If they are the GT cranks that look like the profile cranks, then they are just as good... pretty much the same exact cranks. But yea, just take everything off from the 1 piece and rubber mallet one cup in, put the bearing cup in. Put the crank arm for that side on the spindle and put it into the bearings. Put the metal cylinder thing onto the spindle so it'll be inside the bb. Put the other beaing cup on, rubber mallet it on a little bit, then put those cups in, put the other arm on.. tighten both arms real good, but so that you can still spin the cranks good. and your off.

If he got a pair of 3 piece gt's for 5 bucks, I doubt they're euro and he would know real quick when he tried to put the cup on, when it went through his bike...

how does the spindle come apart? or what, do you take a crank off?

Are you talking about the one or three piece?

If it's the three piece, you'll want to take the cranks arms off so you can install the spindle. Just take the allen bolts off.

If you're talking about the one piece, it doesn't come apart - hence the "one piece."

oh, no, its just that i was being hella stupid and forgot that once you take the pedal off, you just turn the crank and then pull it out, kinda forgot, ive just been dumb this week. ne wayz, today i went to the rio linda bmx track and got wooped by everybody, i was on my gt, a freestyle bike, and the seat was all the way up (dont know why) and my tires were like perfectly smoothe, so you can probably think how that ended up. oh yeah, and my spokes didnt pop my innertube, even though they were sticking out a little.
