Hi, I'm trying to maintenance an older bike and I took apart the brake calipers...now I'm having trouble reassembling them.
Here is a picture of what I'm working with:

I know how to reassemble a brake caliper, in terms of which parts go where, but I'm having a hard time with the skinny, black metal line/piece that attaches to the pivot-point (the black, cut open circle) and goes on the "other" side of the nipple on the other end of the caliper.
I put the circle in it's place with the skinny, black, metal wire on the side of the nipple that it's not supposed to be on (because that's the only way to put the circle in it's place), and then with great force I move the black wire to the other side of the nipple - when doing so, I losen it from in the black circle and there's no tension in it (the black wire) anymore).
Any suggestions? Am I doing this wrong?
