Can't decide between Trek1200 and Specialized Allez A1 Sport 27. Would appreciate any feedback, and also other bikes from $900-$1100 I should consider.

thanks,

Mike

Have you test ridden both?

Are you related to spire? He couldn't get any help, either.

Trek 1200 vs. Specialized Allez A1 24 (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6353)

I have not ridden both yet, will soon.
I hoping to feedback from owners of either bike or anything in that price range I may also want to consider.
I have not purchased a new road bike in over 16 years.

No relation to Spire.

Some more questions.

How much do you ride/plan to ride?

Ride how? Competition? Conditioning? Though the term is grossly passe', I think it's a good one... sport touring? Why'd you choose those bikes? I'm not criticizing. Different preferences call for different bikes.

Those bikes have aluminum frames. I've never ridden one, but the common complaint is that they tend to be very stiff (and light!). Stiff is good if you have competitive aspirations. Maybe not so great, otherwise. Light is always good!

I have a bias toward Bianchi and LeMond bikes. Have you looked at their offerings in your price range? Jamis seems to offer good value for the price, but I've never owned one.

Specialized and Trek are both good brands, but the right fit is the most important. Window shop/surf for the right bike to narrow it down, but the ride is what should make or break the final decision.

Happy hunting and good luck!

Not certain on how many miles a week I will be riding but would hope to have time for at least 3-4 rides a week and add miles as I go.
Ride for conditioning and fitness.....Have a Trek mountain bike and have been able to drop 80 pounds , Now I want to start road riding again and hopefully drop a few more pounds. I want a "strong" reliable bike.
Considering Trek and Specialized because I am happy with the quality of my Trek Mountain bike, and looking at the specs appears Specialized offers alot for the money. Both are available at my local bike shop. Will now look at a Jamis as well.

thanks for the input roadbuzz.

We're not related, but I can see why you might think so. I have recently added Giant OCR2/3 to the list of possible bikes. From what I have been hearing around where I work is that all three of the bikes are pretty much equivalent price and bike wise. One of my friends even said just pick the one with the paint that you like the best:rolleyes:. From what I have been hearing, whichever one of the three that I pick, I will be happy with my purchase :D .

I just purchased the Spec Allez A1 sport 27. Also considered Giant
OCR2 and the Trek 1200. What made the difference for me was the attention paid to me by the local bike shop owner. The bikes are fairly comparable.

How much did you pay and did you get any "options"? (specify currency please)

Spire, don't know if you care to know this or not, but I just paid $2000 CAD (about $1250 USD) for a 2001 Trek 2300. Hopefully that will help you put things into perspective if that's what you were looking for.

Thanks, that is higher than my budged though, I am looking to spend about $1400 CAD on the bike.

You may want to consider Felt bikes, The F65 has a full 105 gruppo ( better specd than the allez sport). I was pretty impressed with the ride and I tried everything in my price range. The felt fit better, spec'd out better and was just more comfy. And it was only $950.00. Sterling

I have looked into it, no felt bikes are avaiable in Canada.

P.S. The thumbs down smilie does not work.
