I just wondering, should I take insurance on my bike,
or maybe add something on my life insurance...

does anyone have any special insurance, and is it expensive?

I would like to hear your opinion before I bring it up before my insurance agent :)

If you have homeowner's insurance, it should also cover your bike. If you have a really expensive bike, you might want to add a rider onto your homeowners for it (and any other really pricy stuff you own). If you don't own a home, and don't have renter's insurance either, talk to your agent. Last time I had to get a rider on my policy for bikes, it was, like $10 (but that was @ 8 years ago), and it was extra coverage for my son's bike while he took it away to college. Had he left it home, there would have been nothing extra.

My bikes are covered on my homeowners with a separate rider. I also carry a fairly large liability umbrella policy. Health insurance is covered through my wife's work. IIRC my rider to cover 30+ bikes with an approximate value of $15,000 costs about $50 a year, it covers theft, acts of God and congress and is a full replacement cost policy, no depreciation.

Carbon frame? You won't need any more than 2 years of coverage!:D

Contact your homeowner insurance or household content insurance company and ask what sort of bicycle insurance they have.

Your homeowners insurance or household content insurance should cover your bicycle up to about $1000 with a $500 deductable. But if your bicycle is worth more than $1000, you will want the extra rider.

If the person you talk to tells you that bicycles are toys, through snorts of laughter, (as several companies I called to ask about insurance a number of years ago did), hang up on them, and contact your local Automobile Association. Transfer all your insurance over to your local Automobile Associate and get the extra bicycle rider they offer.

My homeowners insurance, State Farm, has developed expertise in not covering stuff ... so better check.

But I live in Florida ... the insurance industry owns this state.

I was told by an independent adjuster to avoid anything with "farm" in the name...

I had my run in with them years ago and would rather go without insurance than pay them a single red cent.

Do the policies state that you need a rider? Mine only limits jewelry and electronics.
