Just as the title states, I'm looking for suggestions for a replacement crankset for my 700 Multitrack. I was just given the bike, and the stock Shimano Altus C20 chainrings are a mess, and they are pressed on so I need a whole new crank set. I believe the stock C20 is 48-38-28 and my bb is square tapered. Thanks in advance!

Anything with roughly the same tooth count on the rings would do fine or even going to a 44-32-22 full blown mountain bike crankset. If you're more of a medium quick rider the gearing an MTB set would give would keep your chainline more straight. If you're a charger and pedal like mad everywhere you go then you'd want to stick with searching for a 48 big ring. In that case a cyclocross or touring triple crankset would not be a bad option. Some may poo-poo the MTB set but I know that this is the setup I'm using on all my 700c bikes other than the new lightweight Al-carbon racy frame that I just got. The 44 with a 12 on the rear gives me easily more gearing than I need to cruise along at around 30 to 35 kph (25'ish mph) for as long as my wheezy lungs will carry me. And since you've got a Trek 700 I'm guessing that you're not so much a racer as someone looking to do grocery runs, enjoy some bike trails and generally just ride while sneaking up on some physical fitness. If I hit the nail on the head then an MTB set with the 44 will give you a better overall chainline for the sort of gears you'll be using the most.
As to which to get you've got lots to choose from and far too many to list. Ebay as well as the other online shops and your own local LBS will have oodles of them in a wide variety of price range. You should be able to score a cheap but decent one online for around $25 to $40. I got my last Deore set for $19 when for some reason no one else bid on it. What you want to ensure is that you don't get any of the ones with the riveted rings like you have now and watch for the ones with steel core arms with plastic overlay that mimic the true aluminium cranks. The 700 isn't a top end bike but it's worthy of at least a proper aluminium crankset.
Any square taper set with a 44-32-22 gearing will fit and mate up unless your old crankset had an oddball offset. If so then you MAY need to get a different bottom bracket. If the cranset gears mount up and tension into place with between 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch of space between the tip of the crank arm and the lower chain stay then you're good to go. Ideally the gap would be more like 3/16 to 3/8 inch but for a casual ride bike there's more latitude allowed. If it's close and you find you're striking your heel on the stay a lot then consider getting a longer axle BB at some point.
