i'm an American in Germany and i'm looking for bike insurance recommendations:
main priority is i want to cover my bikes from theft. currently 3 (hardtail, road bike, old mountain bike turned commuter not worth much) and about to buy my 4th ('02 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC Comp - €2500)
i don't have a car and i ride my bike 500-1000km/month and it's my primary transportation. i already have liability insurance and obviously health (private). If i have an accident and i'm found at fault, does my liability insurance cover my expenses? (it's a standard policy i think). Do i need any special bike insurance?
in the US, i had renters insurance which also covered theft of my bikes (with $250 total deductable). I've considered renters insurance too but someone told me that in Germany it won't cover bike theft... anyone know here? plus in the US, my auto insurance also covered some things while riding my bike...
obviously the best would be cheap renter's insurance for like €20k coverage (most of my stuff is in storage in the US) that would also cover bike theft...
and if there is some really cheap cycling insurance that covered accidents that would be good too - i wouldn't think this would be too expensive as bikes just don't cause as much damage as cars... but in the US it's hard to find something like that as far as i know b/c the market is so small b/c everyone has a car --- but in Europe there are more carfree people that rdie bikes...
i found some info w/ ADFC Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club e.V (http://www.adfc.de/versicherungen/rechtsschutz/) on the web and they have a bunch of insurance stuff but i haven't read it yet -- reading long insurance legal crap in English is hard enough and German is even more difficult!
so, i could probably search long and hard and have fun reading German insurance rules, but maybe someone can help me out with some recommendations... (also reluctant to call an agent b/c they'll always tell you everything you NEED b/c they want to sell more insurance)
