General Cycling Discussion - Reaching things without stopping (no jersey pockets)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

First off, I don't want to buy a jersey right now. I mostly use non-cycling-specific exercise wear which I already own for longer rides, which works well enough for me.
Does anyone have good ideas for ways to secure things like food or a cue sheet that are nice to have accessible while riding?

shoving things down your pants? :)
Why not buy a jersey with pockets that is designed to give your easy access to stuff like power bars, etc.
Or how about sew on a few back pockets on your non-cycling-specific cycling shirt?
Cut off water bottle or tennis ball tube works well for holding stuff.

a Jersey...that is what they are made for and you can get them dirt cheap on performancebike ($20 for some models full zip)
why not use one and make life easier?
cue sheets I tape to my top tube. makes it water/sweat proof too.

BUY A $15 JERSEY or two for crying out loud!! You obviously need one, and they aren't expensive unless you want them to be!

It's easy to keep track of what's in the front basket.

Bento Box works well for small things but is a little tight for a regular sandwich. Handlebar bag is better for larger items or use a fanny pack, esp. if you also want to use it when off the bike.

Pull a trailer and put your sandwich and cue sheet in that. Then cut a round hole in the top. Get a fishing pole and mount it to your top tube with a rackmountable-pump mount. When you need your cue sheet, just grab that fishing pole and fish for it.
Your other option is to this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Disney-Princess-Bike-Bag-with-Accessories/5750773 . It has a 3.75-star average review and even comes with a free bonus horn.

Cargo shorts and pants have huge pockets on the side.
We sneaked in an amusement park(Six Flags) our food since they
wanted to charge $3 for a hotdog and $3 for a 20 oz. soda.
Our cargo shorts hid our sandwiches and drinks in our pockets
just fine :)

Performance Bike seems to be out of stock on most of their lower end jerseys lately.

You could always try a backpack but I've looked at ebay and you can get a jersey for under $20 and they are new!

Thanks all for the suggestions. I didn't realize that decent jerseys could be had so inexpensively. I'll have to reconsider getting one, if shipping to Canada is reasonable.

I can't believe I didn't think of that myself!

Unfortunately for me, riding with things in my shorts or pants pockets for anything but a very short distance drives me up the wall.

The Bento Box is pretty Fredly - I've never seen one before - my wife would like it for her snot rags and one of my Fredly friends would be sure love it.
