Hi, I just bought a schwalbe pressure gauge, I can't get it to fit on the valve? I'm using dunlop valves in a 26in mt bike wheel, however hard I try to push it down on the valve no air getss out to give a reading, & yes I did remove the dust cap. The pressure guage has a brass screw where it fits the valve but nomatter where I have this screw in out or even removed it don't make a connection. Is there a trick I should now about here? rgds Nod

The only way to get a pressure reading on a Dunlop valve is while you are pushing air in. The little rubber tube on the inside of the valve is squeezed shut by the air inside, and no gauge can take a reading unless it's on the pump you are pumping it up with.
BTW, why not just pitch the tubes and use Schrader? They use the same size valve hole.

I was told by a mechanic in Netherlands that the gauge only works with Schwalbe brand tubes. I do not know why, but it did indeed only work on the Schwalbe tubes and not other Dunlap valve tubes. Dan, in Germany and Netherlands Dunlap tubes are very common, especially on stadtrads and trekking bikes. Schrader tubes are harder to find.

If it's the blue digital gauge, you have to remove the brass fitting completely and press real hard on the valve.

Ok, got it now, you have to press downn hard and get the angle dead right. works on the dunlop valve ok even wth the brass piese in place, I just wasn't pressing hard enough. doh!

Well Shazam! Ya do learn something every day. I've not encountered a Schwalbe Dunlop valve I guess. I'd be interested to know how their design is different.
