Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Clydesdale Forum ?

I would like to see if we have enough Clydesdales to start a new forum.

At 5'11", & 240, I quit lifting to try some aerobic exercise. Cycling is still fun. My first racing bike was a Hop a Long Cassidy tricycle. I came in last.

I hope we can get a forum, the new bike thing is lightness. My gear has to go fast, and still last.

I'm not sure if I like being called a Clydesdale - I prefer "old fat guy" myself ;-)

I am sure I would visit such a forum if there was one - there's much to discuss:

But, to be honest, I have gone from 240+ to 225 and have never made any kind of modification to a bike despite my "Clydesdaleness" - they seem to work fine for me - I have two road bikes - totally standard and one mtn bike, also standard, a total of almost 19,000 miles the past 5 years, and they have never failed, never had an untrued wheel, never had anything that I wouldn't have had if I weighed 150 lbs. So, I don't know what I would talk about except Jersey sizes decided by skinny italian riders???

I don't think there is a reason to. Is it really that unique a situation. And then of course would there be clydesdale road, mountain, bmx. Cause I don't really care about the problems a clydesdale roadie has as it doesn't apply to my dh bike for example.

I think it could be useful for sure. It would most likely end up being a conglomerated all bikes forum though.

I'm all for this thread. I'm new to forum writing, but not to bikes. It says 240 on my drivers licence and I'd like to keep it that way (at least so I can compete as a clydesdale). I typed in a search for "clydesdale" so I could find out more about what it takes to ride on the road as one. As for DnvrFox, who hasn't had any problems with his bikes in 19,000 miles, don't hold back man tell us what your riding and where so the rest of us don't have to spend the extra money on spare parts. I just bought (in April) a used 853 reynolds frame with mostly Chorus group. Started riding up hills and flexed the Mavic tubular rims to look like Pringles. After some research, I bought Velocity Aeroheads w/ OC rear and had them 3x laced to my existing hubs with 14 gauge straight spokes. Now, no matter what I do, I ride true and smooth.

That's what I think this thread should be about. Stories and fixes that only a clydesdale would understand.

I must fess up.

Last week, my '98 $300 Specialized Hardrock (36 spoke standard single rim wheels) broke a spoke after 9,000 miles. So, my record is now blackened a bit. Replaced the spoke, trued the wheel, and it is now fine.

But, my '99 Lemond BA is still going strong - 9,000 miles also, on standard 32 spoke Mavic wheels, absolutely no problem, and my 2004 Winsdor Leeds Roadie (standard 36 spokes) that I use as a knockabout is fine after 1,000 miles.

So, them's the bikes I use. I weighed from 245 to 200 while riding these bikes, I am now at 222 lbs.

Sorry I don't have worse news to report!

I ride a variety of terrains, but no technical mtn biking stuff.

The SHR has been on a "Ride the Rockies" as has the Lemond BA. They have both been up and over Vail Pass and the like. I also do a lot of flat trail riding.

I am pretty muscular for a 65yo. I have enough muscle to put the bike through the paces.
