I bought this Trek bike this weekend and was told it was about an 83 Trek 500, I am trying to verify it and am having a hard time. The Serial number is 40046 I can not get the photo to upload but will keep trying. The bike is Grey with a light blue Trek Decal. It has the Reynolds Decal but it has been damaged but I beleive it is 531. I will try to get more info and a pic. Perhaps someone will know off the numbers. Thanks

Hello Tom, welcome to the forums. there is a vintage trek site, I think it is simple as vintagetrek.com but I am certain someone here will know the bike by site when you get pics uploaded.

Treks are by far the easiest bikes to ID. The vintage Trek site is awesome. Spend some time looking up your serial number, looking at the catalogs, etc.

The Trek 500 came with Reynolds 501 tubing, not 531.

I've got a 1985 Trek 500 hanging in my workshop right now. Unfortunately, it has the stuck seat post from hell.
