I've already realized my folly in getting 26x1.XX tires when these should be 26x1 X/X tires, courtesy Sheldon Brown.
Current question, can I keep my 26x1.0-1.4 Presta tubes and will they function properly in the correct tires? Or, since I'm already returning the non-fitting tires, is it best to return these tubes as well and get some fractional-marked tubes?

I'm assuming you've got Schwinn 26 1/4 or 26 3/8? The tube you've got will inflate the tire OK, the problem is that you've got Presta valve tubes, but your rims are drilled for Schrader valve. To use Presta tube in a rim drilled for Schrader, you need to use a Presta adapter grommet in the rim's valve hole.

I may have already decided to return these, but I have the Presta-in-a-Schraeder hole issue on another bike--would a small piece of cut rubber suffice? That's what I've been doing (put about 150 miles on it this way) and it doesn't seem too bad. Anything I should watch for in particular with this setup? Pinching from tube swell?

No reason for a ghetto repair, since the proper item only costs $.85.
