I can't find the serial number! Anyone know where to look? I've been all around the lower bracket and up and down the frame. It's a 1999 model.

should be stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket. If your cable routing goes around the bottom bracket there may be a cable guide in the way.

I also have a '99 Stumjumper and I can't find the number, either. I don't have a need to know, but it's an intersting question. When you find out, post it here. Thanks. (And there IS a cable guide, but it doesn't seem like the number is underneath it...and I don't want to take the guide off at the moment :) )

Taking the guide off is really easy. Shift the chain onto the big chainring. Without pedaling, click the shifter to the easiest gear. This will provide a lot of slack in the cable. Do that and the guide should just pop out and move out of the way.
