Looks interesting, the murder ads a certain amount of interest. That aside, the bio on Thomas Stevens, free online, is about the guy who did make it around first, and on a penny farthing. Very interesting read.

"Interesting" as in, "may you live in interesting times." And yes, an attempted murder could easily make a tour more interesting. I hope mine will not be not that interesting.

The book looks like a good read; I put it on my wish list.

I read this, and enjoyed it. There really wasn't too much actual information about Frank Lenz, so the book seems a bit padded with stuff about his earlier racing career, the people who actually made the trip before him, the people who went looking for him etc. Still it was well written and the author did well with the material available.

I read most of it. Honestly, I didn't finish it. Once Frank Lenz disappeared there didn't seem to be much point in reading all the details of the ensuing search.

The first half (or so) of the book, I found to be pretty interesting. Fun to read about the old days.

A similar book, about a transcontinental ride in the 1890's, is called "The Wonderful Ride", and is a first hand account of a fellow who made the journey on his safety bicycle.
