As some of you may be aware, I recently came upon an '82 Diamondback Ridge Runner is marginal condition. I have spent some time pondering what to do...full restore...fix it up as is...or convert it to some sort of cruiser.

I decided to go with the latter to the marginal condition of the paint and the lack of original handlebars. , and will likely get the frame repainted, but was messing about and put a pair of 650B wheels on it. They fit, well, perfectly:

The problem, as one might expect, is brake reach. The bike has Dia Compe 980 canti's, which have a maximium of 30mm reach from the pivot to the brake pad stud, c-c. As you can see below, 35-40mm would be better:

Any idea if there are any other canti's out there with a longer reach? I am not interested in V-brakes, and I have looked on Velobase and cannot make any sense of the data there.

Thanks!

Would you like to trade those 650B's for a pair of comparable 650C's?

C's would fit better, but I think I would rather stick with the B's. I do intend on using a different set of B's, so the brake problem will remain.

The rims are new, the hubs are a mixed pair. I bought them off a guy leaving the state (package deal with a bunch of other stuff). If it is the wheels/rims/whatever you want, let me know and we can work something out.
