I have a Trek 1.5 and was curious about wheel decals - are they a good thing? Do people do it with the stock wheels?

Neither good nor bad. They are just stickers that you can't read when riding, nor can anybody else for that matter.

They improve rim quality if you use the brand-name decals.

DON'T TAKE THEM OFF!!!! You will affect the rim balance...NOT!

Depends on the decal and the bike. I took the ones off the rims I used on my Raleigh Twenty because the OEM rims didn't have decals/stickers. My newer bikes, I will usually leave them on until the get scruffy, the take them off.

If you think that you might want to sell them at some point, I suspect that they sell a little better with the stickers intact.

Personally, I peel mine off because I'm more into esthetics than resale-ability.
