Hey

I'm new here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?670647-Newbie-from-the-Bay-Area) so please be gentle.

I think I've got most of the parts right except the front wheel. The fork isn't aligning with the wheel axle. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to remove the rubber washers or if the axle itself needs to be extended.

Attaching pictures.. Hopefully someone will be able to chip in.

I'm talking about the one with the red-squares. The fork doesn't seem to fit in with the axle. In fact the axle had these rubber stops on either side. Not sure if they stay or go and the fork sits in place instead?

I once bought an RC helicopter off of ThinkGeek once -- I think the instructions (printed in Engrish) were better than this manual - I kid you not.

The distance between the forks was obviously set for the stock wheels, and the ones you have are different (wider) spacing. This is an example of the importance of checking all dimensions for compatibility before ordering replacement parts. Some less expensive hubs have a smaller over-locknut distance, and that apparently is what you are running into. The only fix with those wheels is to have the frork dropouts reset wider apart.

Oh uhm.. I should've mentioned, this is a brand new bike out of the box. No replacement parts or anything. So I just went back to my bike with a buddy and we looked at it again. The fork just needs to be pulled a bit and guided onto the screws (thread) poking out from the axle. And then the QR keeps it all together.

Is that right though? I mean it feels kinda scary to have the front fork rest on a screw/thread.

Those are not rubber stops, those are rubber shields to keep junk out of your bearings. Front fork is supposed to sit on that little piece of axle. Axle must not extend all the way out through the fork, as then the quick release will not work.
