Mountain Biking - back shock

I have an 850lb spring in my back shock and it is too stiff. how can i get the spring off it? there doesnt seem to be a way. can any 1 tell me how to change the spring and/or a shop whcih sells the rear suspension, thanks.

ummm...where are you located? Also what kind of shock...

Yeah, there a couple things you must know/do.

What brand is it? Fox, Rock Shox....etc.

There should be a threaded collar on one end of the spring. This increases or decreases the preload. Back that all the way off and measure the "unsprung" length of the spring. You'll need the same or close to the same length for the replacement.

You'll then need to remove the shock from the bike.

That threaded collar should do one of two things. Loosen all the way off the end of the shock body, or loosen enough so that the retainer clip on the other side is loose enough to slide off and the spring will slide off as well.

basically the shock is a spring shock, make is linker, and it dont luk like there is a way of gettin off the spring, i have another suspension i can chage/swap it with. i live in the midlands, warwickshire and i need to know web site where i can browse for basic rear spring shocks. can i hav some pics or something. lol, sorry about my old post i didnt explain much, i really dont know tht much bout bikes to be honest i know a fair amount. thanks guys for your help and hi to you all!

Hi, Morby14. Well, you have come to the right place to learn about your bike! The only way to learn is to ask questions here and with other riders, and dig around the web searching for info. You'll learn a lot in a short amount of time. We all had to start at the beginning.

You can search this forum using the 'search' feature at the top of the page. Search on 'rear shock' and things like that. Also, there is a great list of fork manufacturers here: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=57152 I mention that because many of those companies make rear shocks, too.

The best way to get good info here is to give as much info as you can as a starting point. Make of bike, how old, brands of component on the bike (most are marked), how you ride, etc. Then we can really get into some good discussions!
