Hi, new to the site and to road biking. I just moved to Austin, TX and there are a ton of places to ride rode bikes here so I'm looking to get into the sport. I found this bike in my local craigslist and wanted to know what you guys think on if its worth it or not since i dont know much about this stuff.

I like the somewhat vintage look to it and i have heard that shimano 105 stuff is supposed to be good. He said its ready to ride and that he would let me have it for $300. Should I get this or should i go for something newer?

does it fit? 300 is very high for this but it appears t be in great shape. nice paint, all the parts look clean, I might have a hard time turning this down. is it your size? it looks to be an '87 model. I have that frame on a different bike and it rides great.

I think it should fit fine. he said it fits him good and he's 5'8" and im 5'10" so it should be good. I'll be going to check it out tomorrow. what would you think a fair price for both of us would be?

well i would say and other will say it is too much but between $250 -300 is good. 3 is the very high sied but that bike looks great. you can't see alot of wear and tear in the pics.

if for some reason it does not work out for you, you should not have much trouble reselling it at that price too.

Well i went to check it out and it fit great! I mean i have no experience on Road bikes or drop down handle bar style bikes but this bike was really comfortable and i can just barely stand over the top tube so i think its good. It looks as good in person as it did in the pics surprisingly, and it rode really smooth. The tires need inflating a little but not too bad its still rideable as is.

So after i rode it i told him and i liked it and started to do the haggle it further down thing that i just cant stop myself from doing. I ended up getting it for $280 which i was very pleased with.

I weighed it when i got home and she weighs 26.6 pounds if i remember correctly. It feels very light.

You did fine. That bike, if taken care of, will last a lifetime. Other than weight, it is easily comparable to a new bike costing 4x as much, and even the weight is not too bad. It is certainly much much better than any new bike at similar price point.

Well done. (plus you received great advice above too)

Sure looks a lot like my 1987 Bianchi Brava. That's about what I paid for mine in similar condition and still think I did well. Something about those beautiful steel lugged frames...
