I was riding my SS mountain bike today on some back roads. The person I was riding with ran over a stick which then flew into the front wheel spokes of her bike and promptly stopped the front wheel NOW... throwing her over the handle bars into the dirt. She was OK but what a weird way to crash. Attacked by a stick.

Might be kind of fun to hear some of other's best and weirdest crashes (hopefully no more "hit by a car" stories.:D

Ate it at about .005mph when my pants caught in my chain and tore from cuff to crotch. Not embarrassing at all.

as a kid, i was riding a wheelie down the street and the front wheel came off. held it as long as i could......

years later, you could still see the marks in pavement from the forks dragging before i eventually went over the handlebars

i was at a sidewalk cafe when a woman rolled by on a mountain bike, while talking on a cell phone. she fell between two parked cars and continued to talk the whole time. While she was sitting there, a car started to back into the spot she had fallen into. neither the driver nor the cyclist saw each other until a few folks jumped up to stop the driver. the woman got up and kept pedaling. never stopped her conversation and never thanked the people who stopped the car.

she is most likely dead by now

Not a crash, but raced my friend home from the liquor store with my front QR released. Didn't have a lock so I just popped it off when I got there thinking that whoever stole it wouldn't make it far... Forgot about it after finding some good microbrew and somehow sprinted for 1 mile back to drink it without noticing.

Yeah...I know that woman. She is dead. I went to her funeral. She requested that the entire memorial be done by everyone attending the memorial to be on cell phones via a conference call.

The first day I put my clips and straps on my fixed gear I decided to try a trackstand in my living room. Do note that I suck at trackstands. So my first time with the clips I tip over and forgot that my feet were attached to the bike. It wasn't a very hard fall, but I have hardwood floors and live in a second floor apartment. Luckily my wife wasn't home to witness, but the neighbors must have wondered what the noise was. This was also the first time I have ever heard my 3 cats laugh.

When I first started riding, was making a right turn onto a busy road. I turned very sharply at a slow speed and my toe overlapping caught on my front tire and proceeded to toss me over the handle bars. Got some gnarly road rash and sat in the middle of a busy street like an idiot trying to get out of the way to safety. Finally hobbled over to the side of the road and proceeded to baby my wounds. Was a brand new bike too :( ended up tearing the handlebar tape..

Last year I experimented with riding commando, and at the end of my 30mi ride I was cruising around a parking lot to cool down while waiting for a friend. I was out of the saddle, pedaling very slowly, and went sit down. Unfortunately, things were out of order and there was a bit of pinching and squishing upon sitting. This came as quite a surprise and I tried to remedy the situation by getting off the bike far too hurriedly. I forgot I was strapped in and ended up doing an awkward bunny hop type maneuver and tipped over at about 1/2 mph.

Moral: don't ride commando!

I was putzing around town on my mountain bike & came upon a construction site with some big piles of dirt. I cruised up to the top of one of the piles going way too slow, lost my forward momentum & couldn't get my feet unclipped before falling over. Backwards. Ended up on my back, legs in the air, bike still attached to my feet. Felt (and probably looked) like a turtle on its shell, but with less grace and more embarrassment.

I had a huge branch kick up into the rear wheel of my mtb on a really fast singletrack decent. Blew out 12 spokes completely.

I observed this from my front yard as a kid.

Friend of mine was riding down the street, past my house, on his Mongoose with his buddy riding on the handlebars. Guy on handlebars is yelling and screaming for him to slow down. My friend gets pissed for some reason and just puts his feet down and stands up, ghost riding the bike down the street with his "buddy" still holding onto the bars. He went pretty far down the street, up a driveway, through some ivy and crashed into a big bush. Was a great thing to watch as a 12 year old. I’ll never forget my friend just hopping off the bike, turning around and going home with no worries about his bike or his "buddy” on the bars. Cold!
