Recreational & Family - Trailers on uneven ground

We have a Burly D'Light trailer that my little guy likes riding in. What I want is to take him on some mild, mild, mild trails in a local state park. They are not quite MUP level but less than Cyclocross couse level. (Maudslay State Park in Newburyport MA if you know it). Do any of you have experience taking kid trailers over uneven/broken ground?

It can be kind of jarring to the kids. If you have larger tires, run the pressure a little lower. Have the kids sit on a blanket or pillow. Be extra careful with stuff getting kicked up from your rear tire and into your kids face.

They'll let you know whether they like it, don't care or hate it.

Go slow, have them wear sun glasses for eye protection. If the trail is wide enough it helped us to have a second rider at the trailer level to interact with kids so they won't get bored too fast.

Sunglasses, pillows and boredom, although good points to touch on, are't really my primary concerns. Having the trailer separate from the bike and injuring or killing the child is one. Having the trailer break because I am using it outside it's design parameters is another one. Things like that. I already know that the boy is prety rough-and-tumble and likes riding in the trailer. I just want him to survive it!

I think you will be fine. We have ridden moderate mountain bike single track with our Burley and it has been just fine. Watch the turns and don't go too fast. You and the little one will be fine. The trailers are a bit tippy, but you aren't going to pitch them out of the trailer if they are properly buckled and you are going at a reasonable speed. Make sure they are wearing a helmet and have fun.
