I Recently aquired a 1984 Pinarello from my grandfather. Its in great shaped except for a few minor scrapes in the paint. I ordered decals and cleaned everything, but I need brake hoods. White or gum are the two colors a was looking for, but i don't really know where to look besides ebay. If some could help me find A pair of Dia-compe aero brake hoods, that would be great. I am also looking for a selle italia turbo, not a remake though. Thank for the help!
1984??,....Grandfather???!!........that stings a bit.........
Can't believe those two words can come up together in C&V......... yet.
Ehhh... maybe he was "old" already back in 84.....
Please note that there are different kinds of aero hoods for different Diacompe aero lever models. I found out the hard way when I bought a spare pair earlier this year for my Aero Grand Comps. Compare your present ones with any pictures from the seller befor buying/bidding on them.
NOS turbos still come at at ebay regularly (They did make jillions of them in the 80's and 90's) and I noticed that the prices on them had gone down significantly, most likely because of the abundance of the reissued version that sells for pretty cheap these days. (70+ bucks in some instances). Expect to pay just below or at 100 bucks for the NOS saddles. They were much more than that just a year ago.
You might just also reconsider getting the re-issued version as they look pretty much identical to the originals. No one will really notice you have a new one on the bike. Save your money for harder to find classic parts for the bike.

The white replica is generally as nice as a lot of the used ones, if not better. Just my opinion, and my butt doesn't seem to mind.
Chombi.... you'll just have to stop thinking about years and age. As of 1984, I hadn't been born yet; but, I still hang around C&V. Just think of it as a place where age doesn't matter and all is well.
Turbos are on ebay constantly. That'll be the easiest way to acquire one.

Thank you for the advice.........young man:rolleyes:,................your wisdom on how one should deal with age is very admirable considering you were not even around when most of us C&Vers were in college and riding our classic bikes......................NOW GET OFF MY LAWN Gen X'r!!!!:p:D:rolleyes:

Twist the knife why don't ya.... :)
:D Well, also 1/3 of the people on this subforum are probably generation x'ers. They're just all in denial. It's ok.... I'm 45 at heart, hence the curmudgeon in training label.

Yes, good point Chombi - but when you and I are just dust and ash these young whippersnappers will be keeping the C&V flame burning. I just need to figure out how I can be buried together with my 34 bikes - don't want anybody Drewing them or parting them out when I'm gone !!!!

Please just remember to at least leave the C&V faithful all your retrofriction shifters before you go in the ground with your bikes Oldpeddaller!
It seems like there's never enough of then to go around....

So did you get the correct ones for the Aero Grand Comps? And if so, where? i need a couple of sets for the same.

Nahhh... haven't gottten back to it, anyway, the original hoods are actually still in good shape as I think they are made of silicone and not latex rubber. One of the regular Ebay sellers from either France ofr Belgium ( I could not remember which one..."Vintage bike" or "Cassanova") seems to have the correct ones (double check with the seller just to make sure and look at the auction pics very closely). but they are not cheap at , IIRC, 44 bucks a set.
Try searching at eBay for "Diacompe brake hoods" and the item and seller should pop up should pop up. The ones he had for sale lloks to be either natural latex color or red. Don't ge the white ines in the bag with a white cardboard Diacompe tag as it did not fit my aero AGC levers.
Good luck!
