Since dbpoweramp is no longer free, I'm looking for a free program to convert w4a to mp3. Will iTunes convert?

I used dbpoweramp a while back, but it seemed to introduce a lot of static. I don't know what was going on, but I moved on to Audiograbber. It's definitely harder to use, but has a lot of options, can pull ID3 info from online databases, and seems to create very clear audio files:

As far as I know, you can also use iTunes or Windows Media Player, but with limited control.

win media player needs a plugin to handle m4a, it's a real pain . Foobar2000 is definitely painless though:

I stopped using audiograbber for anything but recording through the line-in (digitizing vinyl). And I'm shifting that over to Audacity actually.

Thanx for the suggestions so far. By the way, I read the reviews on Koyote and wasn't impressed with all the "spamware" it installs.
