How fanatic are you about reaching your training goals? To what extent will go to in order to ride everyday? Personally it stresses me out when I miss a day of planned training. It puts me on edge when I come to the conclusion that I won't be able to ride that day. When you miss a day do you try to do extra on another day of the week or do you just forget about it?
Just the thought that there are others out there putting in time on the saddle and getting better when I am not freaks me out.

I think we all hate missing a planned ride but dont sweat it, rest is good for you too. :thumb:

Chronic low-grade overtraining is one of the most common problems in the lower categories.

Yeah- I've long felt the same... hated missing a workout, to the point where I would stress myself (and my wife) out.. not cool.
Now Im trying Hunter Allen's program where I train every other day (yes, you read that right)-- tons of FTP work.... my riding has actually improved (by feel, I've yet to race with this program in my legs)... all power zones have gone up.
More rest... "easier" to train harder when you really need to.
I skipped two recovery rides last week because of the heat and didn't stress over it.

I don't plan my training too closely just so I won't stress over missing a day. My schedule has goals for the week but doesn't specify which days are what (and these days it's mostly in my head, I don't need to write down more than an outline).
If I miss a day I'll either do that workout later in the week or skip it and rest if I am tired.
My club sponsors coaching for a few select riders each year. One of the requirements is that they post their training logs to the club mailing list once a week. It's been instructive- most if not all of these guys are much faster than I am but they have to skip or rearrange workouts more often than I do. So it's clear that missing a ride is not that much of an impediment to improvement.

check out the latest Road magazine for details--- its NOT EASY. Im Cat 3 in both Road/Track so I have plenty of miles in my legs but still.. this program just kicks my butt, especially the 3x30 intervals.... hard when you work full-time.
I followed Carmichael's Time Crunched program pretty faithfully through the spring, but since Nevada City in June it's been a lot more ad hoc. I ride everyday as a bike commuter, but try to do intervals three days a week and use the other days as active recovery. If I can do that, I don't sweat the details too much. With a fulltime job, kids, wife, and a house, it's not worth the stress.
