Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What's so bad about Sugino Rd cranks?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So I posted a picture and specs of my bike and got a lot of feedback regarding the crankset I chose.
I have the Messenger chainring with RD cranks.
I've checked sugino's website and tried to search online, but the only thing that everyone always says is that Sugino 75 has proven itself among messengers and keirin riders in Japan for a long time.
Does that mean Rd is necessarily worse?
What exactly makes the Rd set a lower grade crank?
And what's wrong with the Messenger Chain Ring?
Thanks,

How exactly do you feel flex on the RDs? I have nothing to compare it to.

they are too affordable.
If I remember correctly, the apparent focus of your build was to spend as much money as possible.
I think it's probably less that RD cranks are "bad", and more what adriano said. Inconsistent.

Attach strain guages to your legs.

Yeah, DO NOT WANT!
To me it's just a matter of how they manufacture them. Forged vs cast ? What intricacies are involved in style/design, maybe even grade of materials ? I have a set of Sugino GP's on a vintage road bike. They were considered a value Sugino crankset in it's day.

I recall back in the day Shimano was the winner of the Japanese war of cranksets. I couldn't tell the difference either way ? Shimano had a reputation for being the desired bottom bracket and rear cassette/cluster, so everyone wanted to match up components. At the end of the day, Sugino, Shimano & Campagnolo all produced a value and professional line and bike manufacturers put the value line on a bike to get a standard product off the showroom floor. From there the higher end & pricier component sets were for upgrades or cyclists that wanted to build a high end bike from the frame up. Just like exotic cars, it was a price justification for what we see today as a $ 5-7K road bike vs a $ 750-5K road bike. So to answer the question, nothing wrong with a Sugino component set. Which one do you like ?

Some people just have to have Campagnolo just the same.
