Foo - I no longer despise my job

Can't hate something you don't have.
Apparently, my continued service with the company is no longer required. (required, or desired? I'm pretty sure they'll hire someone cheaper and less experienced to replace me.)

I needed spare time to clean my apartment and ride more, anyhow.

If the trend continues, 100% of the people I know [personally] who have lost their jobs within the past few months have all gone on to extraordinarily better things...

I remember working at Cisco during the boom years. The best paying I job I had ever held, and until the actual moment I got hired, it was my dream job.

I hated every excruciating minute I was there, and when the boom went bust I was giddy with joy when they let me go. Despite my industry being in disarray and with no prospects for gainful employment anywhere to be found, I whistled all the way home. It was such a relief, I didn't mind being without means or prospects.

I've had a clue this was coming for a while and started putting myself out on the job market a couple months ago. Last week I had a primary interview for a position that pays 20% higher, and a second company contacted me about an open spot yesterday. I'm not too worried about things. Especially since they have to cut me a lump sum check for my 240 hrs of unused PTO after letting me go.

Sending good thoughts that one of the new job prospects will work out.

It seems that this job was sucking the life out of one of the nicest people I have ever met and am sure that your prospects are good despite the economic situation.

Life is far to short to do things that you hate and although my current career path will not make me wealthy it brings me a great deal of personal satisfaction.

A small bit of advice, if I may....... :)

Don't be in a rush to find employment...... look, by all means, but take a little time for yourself if you can afford it. I'm old enough to have been in the workforce during that last three.....ooops......four recessions. Being in the technology sector, that usually meant I was out the door and looking to get employed again. One thing I've realized - while having no income can be a bit stressful, the time off is a golden opportunity to muse about life, re-orient, and set your mind right.

A lot of good came from that, and it helped me and my family enormously in the long run.

And when you do get an offer - tell them you'll need two weeks before you can start. :)

I'm finishing my Super Randonneur before taking employment anywhere, so I'm giving myself until at least mid-September.
I'm getting almost a 2 month paycheck out of this; we just paid off a recurrent bill yesterday, I have no car payment, my educational loan's last payment is next month... The Girl and I have been working over the last 2 years very seriously to pay off any debt we accrued. All that's going to be left is her school loan and her car payment. The school one is hefty, and the car payment is puny. We're backing off entertainment funds for a while and doing some super-smart grocery shopping, and that will lessen the impact of this.
All said and done we could *almost* get by on just her paycheck, so even if I end up taking a couple of low-stress bench tech contracts for a while, it's not like we're going to end up living in a refrigerator box. Not that I'm cheering about how today went down... I mean, it still phracking bites. But I think I can use the time wisely for some catching up on my RUSA distance goal with 2 - 3x 100k rides during the week in between the 400k on Saturday, and then 3 weeks from now with the 600k.
Catch up on spending time walking my dog.
Clean my carpets.
Sort through the crap in my garage.
Finish building my bike trailer.

Four months on unemployment several years ago was actually one of the better moments of my life. Hang in there, enjoy the time off but keep on looking, you never know when/where the perfect job may pop up.

Sometimes, when you work a job you hate, you get jaded. When that happens, it's best to lay low for a while to let the poison works it's way through your system before jumping into the meatgrinder again. :)

Really good coffee this morning. You know, I never realized exactly how bad the free swill at work was until just now. Sure, we knew it was bad when the company switched their vendor contract from Seattle's Best to whatever stale ichor they currently have... but this morning's brew really makes me appreciate my Nespresso machine.
