I've long since had both double and triple setups in my hands, so I don't remember exactly how they were setup. I don't really want to pay TA's price for double bolts, so I'm wondering how hard would it be to use triple bolts. I'm wondering if I could add extra spacers to the back of the innner chainring to take up the slack, providing there is enough chainstay clearance. Either that or some careful filing of the bolts. Any ideas?

i dont have that crank, but i've used run of the mill spacers from the hardware store and/or manufactured my own when the crank bolts didn't snug up (snap a section off of a washer to fit around the bolt). i wouldn't file the bolts if i were you in case you ever want to go back.

You'd need to use the 2nd set of spacers plus another thin spacer about the thickness of a chainring and then you could probably thread the back part of the chainring bolt on. Without spacers though the bolt will bottom out.
