I moved MUCH closer to my work and was thrilled that I could walk (it's about a mile). But on the 4th day, I had a lunch to get to about a mile from my office. I didn't want to drive, so I rode my bike. That was it, I was hooked. Been biking to work ever since. The big problem is that my commute is TOO SHORT. I go home for lunch every day, but I'm still logging less than 4 miles total. So I usually go for a ride after work, too. And downtown on the weekend for coffee.

This is my commuting bike, Greta. I have a Trek mountain bike that I was using, but I found this Electra for $150. I put lower-rise handlebars on it, and I have a hybrid cruiser/old style 3-speed. Greta is my beater daily driver. I was going to put a rack on the back, but I think I will just get a large messenger bag for grocery trips.

I'm down to using the car 1 day a week, to do laundry.

Hi ilynne,
I use a seat post rack.
It has come to be very handy.

Enjoy the simplicity!
