I put a more comfortable seat on my mtb cause I figure when I do 4 hr rides it's nice to not have to stand the next day lol.

Well now my son is saying something similar. He keeps saying his bottom bothers him when he rides. Is it rediculous to get a more comfortable seat for him? I'd think not, that keeping him comfortable would be the most important thing. Want to make sure I'm not overboard though, thx.

Look into the Odyssey Senior 2. My experience is that Odyssey makes pretty comfortable seats, and they go for less than $30 at the BMX specific online stores.

My current saddle is a THE Icon Pro, and it's a little narrower than I would like. It puts a little too much pressure on my sit bones. I'm also disappointed at how quickly the color has been wearing off of it. I'm planning to replace it with the kevlar version of the Senior 2, before next spring.

I think it is totally reasonable to get him a comfortable seat, especially if he is riding more. If riding is uncomfortable, then he might give it up. Another option is to get a gel seat cover (they do make them in kids sizes, but are hard to find) or even kids padded bike shorts. I see no reason not to consider the comfort of your child, as much as your own, especially if it is something you hope for them to keep doing.

The bikes I started riding on had METAL seat pans, covered with plastic and maybe 1/8" of padding. They ALL hurt after a little while...and we LIKED it.
Didn't need no gel-seats padding.
Remember...Pain is WEAKNESS leaving your body. Suffering builds character.
Do you want your kid to grow up a weakling with no character?

(seriously, I'd have LOVED a nice cushy gel seat on my old bike, and i'm sure your kid would appreciate a better seat).
