There's a hill after 41st? SW Marine Drive rises slightly just after the end of the residential area, but there are steeper climbs before you get there. I think the rise up the Skytrain bridge is probably just as steep (and probably longer)!

keep your all day transit pass handy! LOL. works great at flatting out the hilly parts.

seriously though, if you are doing it for the first time, try to lighten up your load and bring only the essentials. with hills and since it is only around town, there is no need to pack a lot and it just becomes extra weight to carry up the inclines. with the fantastic weather we have been having lately and if you are planning to do it this week, there would be little need to wear too much, so best not to over dress, again hills will bring your internal temp up rather quickly and you will be sweating.
it does get a bit cooler depending on the parts of UBC you plan to hit, so a light windbreaker would be useful if you are planning to ride later into the evening.

anyways, should be a good ride. have fun.

Hello ht2010.........I've taken the bike route over the new Skytrain bridge from the Richmond side. The ride from there to UBC has some hills but their all doable, usually I continue on to Vancouver and return by way of Ontario St (bike route)

Hi
That's a super ride. I've ridden this route with Triker a couple of times this summer. After passing UBC and down that fantastic hill, we ride along the beach trail to Granville Island, a bit of lunch and then follow the trail along False Creek to Ontario St. Ontario is a bit of a climb however I can make it and I'm 70 with a heart that does not pump quite enough blood so I'm happy to stop at the red light at Broadway and Ontario. You cycle a couple blocks off route for a visit to MEC and then back to Ontario. Another side trip off of Ontario over to Cambie Cycle and drool over the recumbents and trikes if you are so inclined. Back to Ontario and continue down Ontario to South Kent and back to Richmond over the Canada line Sky Train Bridge.
I'm riding a hybrid with MTB cranks which gives me a granny gear of 24 and 11-32 cassette. Great for the hills
Triker is good enough to wait for me once in a while so I can rest for a few moments on the hills
It's a fantastic way to spend a Sunday
If you plan to stop at Granville Island or MEC bring along a good lock or a partner who stands guard over your bike while you shop.
