My wife is going to China for work and I'm meeting her in Hong Kong for a week when she's done. I've always wanted to go to Thailand as well, so is it worth taking a three night trip over there? I'm not asking if it's worth visiting Thailand but rather it's worth doing since my whole trip is only one week. Is there enough to do to fill up an entire week in Hong Kong?

Also, for those who've been to HK, what are your favorite parts of town to stay in if you like a lot going on around you?

Thanks for any thoughts.

You would probably need more time.

If I had the oppurtunity to travel, I'd take it. Sounds like you'd have fun and get to spend time with the Misses.

I've been to Thailand... It really depends on what you want to do there.

I'd venture to say it's a lot cheaper than HK, but my guess is you'd be better to spend all of your time in HK.

Well it will be enough time to explore Bangkok. If you do decide to go and there on a weekend, check out Weekend Bazaar. It's like a small city.

Oh and don't listen to Tuk Tuk drivers.

It depends on what you want to do and where you want to go. Three days is enough to give you Bangkok or Chiang Mai but not much more than one major city.

I'd say yes, there's enough to do in Hong Kong to fill up a week (you could even throw in a side trip to Macau) but it depends what you're looking for. I'll try to write some more detailed ideas later.

If you are only going to be there for 1 week, I'd stay in Hong Kong. I think it would be more enjoyable to spend the week in one general area rather than the feel rushed trying a few days here, a couple days there, etc.

When I visited China in '08, I took a week just to visit Beijing and was able to see a lot without feeling rushed. Anything less than that and I felt like I would have had to make a lot of compromises.

Thanks for the replies so far. I think we're going to stay in HK for the week. Next question is about where to stay. Her boss is paying for a three nights on HK Island in the Central/Western area. We like to be active and go shopping, to bars, etc. Is that a good area to stay or should we look at other parts of the island or Kowloon for the other nights?

Thanks again!
