I use Ascent software with my Garmin. I went for one of my usual rides and forgot to charge the battery. Since this is a known loop, I want to transfer the identical data from a former ride to yesterday's date. I tried dragging the file to the desktop (.gpx format) and changing the name/date of the file, but no luck. The message I get is,"An activity being imported has same start time as an activity already in the current document. Each activity contained within an activity document must have a unique start time. The import operation was not completed for this activity. If you want to import this activity, use a new or different activity document. It must be reading the data, not just the date. The Ascent forums don't have anything either.
Anyone know how to do it?

1) Use the export function (gpx) to create a separate file,
2) Use a text editor or MSWord to replace the date using the Replace All option,
3) Save the updated file,
4) Reimport into Ascent.
It works really well.

Many thanks gpelpel. Worked perfect. Had to do it in Text Editor. Wouldn't open in MS Word.

Of course, you realize that in the FINAL ACCOUNTING your ride miles will not count, don't you?

Hopefully, I have a while to go before we tally up and I go to the Spinning Wheel Heaven. :thumb:
I've been using the free Garmin Connect to log my rides from my Garmin Edge 305. How is the Ascent software better (I also have a Mac), and why should I consider buying it? (I know it is no more than $50)

User interface, functions, look, support, ...
It's easy to communicate with the author, request features, and usually get them in future versions.
I have been using Ascent since April 2007. At the time the forum was very active with early adopters. We had updates almost every week. It was fun and exciting to be part of the process.

I started with Garmin, but was really unhappy with the features and functions. I posted my concerns and JoelS said to get Ascent.
Try the trial version - free. If you like what you see, you can get the full version.

I'm very happy with Ascent. It's easy to use and has an attractive interface.
And the price is pretty darn low for software like this.
