Hello again,
Decided against a recumbent after all, but thought you might like to know that I did finally find a bike! I chose: Globe Carmel Low Entry (http://www.globebikes.com/us/en/globe/GlobeBike.jsp?pid=10CARWMN3) in orange, as suggested by BluesDawg:

Specialized has the Globe Carmel Low Entry (http://www.globebikes.com/us/en/globe/GlobeBike.jsp?pid=10CARWMN3) models.

Thanks, everyone, for taking this great journey with me! All the advice was so helpful! If I don't post for a while, it will be because I am out riding!

As recumbent rider and builder Andrew Carson says, the best bike is the one you will ride. Enjoy the Carmel.
