Utility Cycling - Two kids and an insane amount of groceries on the Xtracycle

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Very cool! Too much fun.
That is freaking cool! I love the picture where you're holding the camera to get all three of you. I can't make it out, it's not the Radish nor Big Dummy, is that a bike extended with Free Radical or there are other Xtracycle models I don't know about?

It's just an old Panasonic mountain bike frame with a free radical on it. :D Thanks for the props, guys! It was totally fun, and I can't believe how much this bike can hold, it really is like a car in a lot of ways, crazy. Yesterday we went to the farmers' market and then I stopped by the bicycle shop, with the kids and panniers full of stuff, to pick up a new lock. Hilarious. So easy to get stuff done.
I may not afford another bike this year, a Big Dummy in particular, so I have been thinking about going with the Free Radical. So I'm always interested when I see an Xtracycle. But for now I've built a cargo trailer so I'll see how that works out. I have no kids, it's just for cargo use. This way I'd save up for a Big Dummy for next year. I'm really starting to hate driving in the city more and more, sitting in the traffic and looking for parking wears me out. I'm jealous of people like you who broke away from the car dependency.
Unless I get really fed up and sell the car then I will have have enough cash for two new bikes :D

Don't worry about the full Big Dummy kit; it is a good thing, but the xtra/freerad combo is more than sufficient. It's what I have, and I gave away my cargo trailer as a result.

Besides cargo duties, I also have this idea of touring on a BigDummy, largely influenced by Vik's pictures :D So a single frame seems to me like a more reliable solution.
