I'll start off with the coolest pic first. Over the weekend, we had some pectacular sky views from the Perseid Meteor Showers. I got this one

As to the rest of the weekend, I spent it on the sailboat. Perfect weather, 10-20 knot wind, and a high of 81 degrees.

Landing the boat was interesting, since we had the wind out of the North. This basically put us under full power coming in to the dock and it got a bit tricky.

Also, I was out on the boat flying the huge red spinnaker in the video, as well over the weekend.
Here are mine:
We went to football practice and then the boys got their pads and jerseys.

We went to the pool.

I chilled out.

and rubbed toes with family and friends.

Tom...only one question. Does the beard count as additional sail surface? :p

Apparently jsharr likes it in the can.
Apparently jsharr likes it in the can. I will take it in the glass or the can. The pool frowns upon the patrons showing to much glass, encourages us to show our cans. This particular evening, the cans and the contents thereof where free, as where the brats and fixins. It is a community pool and one of the members throws a brat party every year. The brats were poached in Old Milwaukee, onions and butter for hours before grilling. Damn good eats, the band played great R&B stuff, and the wife and I danced to Brown Eyed Girl, after I cut in our five year old son. The owner of the other set of toes in the pic came and danced with him, as she said he walked off and was glaring at me for dancing with his date.
TOM! Why are you in the water? :eek:I thought you were a sailer?:innocent:;)

That sounds, and looks, like a mighty fine time.

Had to do a deep water landing. The docks are too close together to swing inshore and turn into the wind for a dock landing. The wind was blowing parallel with the alignment of the docks, so it the dock was crossing our T, so to speak, we were getting a beam wind and a lot of power out of the sails. Imagine trying to enter a slot 30 feet wide in a 20 foot boat, at 15 knots, and trying to come about and kill the speed and not ram the dock. It's not possible, so we had to land it by killing the speed by turning into the wind off the end of the dock and floating the boat in with the leeboards up to kill any headway possibility.

Yeah, I knew the answer but I had to give you a hard time. I like bringing fixed keel boats in , esp, those with some ballast in the keel. Head for the slip, drop sails and if need be, you can rock it or scull it in the last little bit with the rudder.

If you've ever sailed a Scow, Jeff, you'll really appreciate this.....
We pushed the boat so hard we submarined the bow on an upwind point, 10 degrees off the wind. We must have taken on 50 galloomns of lake over the bow before I got the main flattened out with both the boom vang AND the rear stay mast brake trying to depower the boat.
