We've had a neighbor just turn out her cat. I'm 99% sure who turned her out. She's down to around 5 pounds and should be around 12 pounds or so by her age and frame size, and I can't take her in.....Annie definitely doesn't get along with other cats at all.
I can't get her to a rescue shelter til tomorrow, and can't contain her, either to keep her safe.
I truly detest some people.:notamused:

Unfortunately, she's pretty skittish. I did give her a can of cat food, outside. I've never seen a cat eat a can so fast, ever. She'll let me get close, and she came over and rubbed my legs after I fed her, but she won't let me touch her. I reach down and she scats.

Do you have one of those plastic crates that would provide a little shelter from the elements? To just leave outside.

I set out a styrofoam cooler with a door cut in the side to serve as a cat shelter and weighted down so it won't blow. It leaks icewater anyway, and we don't use it, so I retasked it.

When my neighbors moved they left their cat. That really pissed me off. How cruel and mean. He's become my "half-a-cat" and I feed him but I can't take him in either because of my own cat. I am trying to find him a home but he's becoming very independant and may not tolerant being indoors. I thought of trying to bring him in and when I had the chance, I applied Advantix... now he won't come within 10 ft of me. Oh well, his loss.

There are apartments near where I work and people seem to leave cats a few times a year, at least that I know of. We have a band of cats we take care of on the night shift, each with names. It works out pretty well for them and us, and paws neuters them for free. Some have been around for five years, and theyve all become nocturnal :D

Cats are a very beautiful species, if I wasn't allergic I'd have one as a pet. And yeah, people who don't take care of their animals are either mentally deranged or complete scum. You make a pact with an animal when you take it in. An important one.

I took in a cat that everyone hated, including me. She was mean, nasty, spiteful, not at all loving... but I agreed to care for her and I had her =gulp= 19 years (I got her at age 1)! She finally got very ill and thankfully the doctor suggested I put her down. I didn't hesitate but I have to say I was a good owner and gave her good care. Her name, BTW was "Lucy" short for Lucifer!

Several years ago, my neighbors moved in the dead of night due to financial troubles. They abandoned three dogs and four cats. Before they moved, one of the cats I was familiar with since it would run over to see me when I was reading on the front porch. I would pet it and give it food and water. Then my existing cat died from a pulmonary embolism. I took in the semi-feral cat I had befriended and turned her into a house cat. She has been with me for five years now.

You make a pact with an animal when you take it in. An important one.
A few years ago I was making small talk with a client and her boss while we waited on a meeting to start. They asked me if I ever thought about moving back to Britain and I explained that while I daydreamed about it sometimes, it wasn't realistic because I had 3 dogs and wasn't prepared to put them in quarantine. The client laughed and said with a sneer "What, they don't have dogs in Britain? Why don't you just get new dogs?"
I just gaped at her, totally at a loss as to how to reply (Well, I had several ideas but they weren't appropriate for a business setting). Immediately her boss asked her if he could have a word with her outside. She didn't return for the meeting and from what I can gather, he sent her back to the hotel. A couple of days later, I received a letter of apology.
That was a nice gesture but did she really think I would just dump my dogs? Is that what she would have done?

Wow... impressive boss! Some people just can't bond with animals like others. Many feel they're disposable, and would get rid of them at the drop of a hat if "something better" came along.

Well, she's at a no kill shelter now. This morning, I fed her and she let me pick her up. I really wanted to adopt her, but as I said, Annie was having none of it. I tried a gentle intro and Annie took a solid swipe at her and the stray climbed up my leg. Unfortunately, I was wearing shorts. :( I took her there personally, and made a donation while I was at it that will feed the whole cat population for the month there (30 cats right now, and I set in a reserve for another 30).
She had apparently also gotten into a fight last night, because she had some battle damage that Annie didn't inflict.

I've got a 7? year old semiferal living with me and the brat cat, and the semiferal only lets me touch her when she's eating. It's kind of strange, but it's what she wants. I've had her for about 5 years now, and have answered the "couldn't you find one closer to you question" many many times as to how a guy in Chicago adopted a cat from New York City.
Good for you Tom for taking care of the stray. Cats often make you wonder if caticide is happening as the adapt to newcomers, and some never really do. They're just like people. Except they wouldn't just dump someone in a garbage can.

This incident is on the front page of Yahoo today, she's going to be getting a lot more attention from that.
Whenever something about a cat like that hits the Internet so much publicity and all kinds of protests come up. People start spreading the perpetrator's address, phone number, name, workplace, etc. If it was a kid that was put in the garbage you would never see as much objection and publicity. I know journalists are eating it up. I’m glad she got caught just saying the truth here.

The only reason this got so much publicity is because she was caught on video. Puppies and kittens and other unwanted animals are dumped into the garbage all the time.

But, pets are lifestyle accessories these days....
USe them for a while and when you get bored or they are an inconvenience,

Most of the birds where I live are "junk" birds - non-native - house finches, english sparrows, doves... but what we do have is awesome - mating pair of Cooper's hawks. Those junk birds feed them just fine!!! :thumb:
