Mountain - Plains - Utah bike license?

From some googling, I've found two descriptions of a bike license law in Utah. One implied that every bike must have a license and that the owner of the bike is responsible for obtaining it. The other said that every bike sold by a dealer in Utah needed to be licensed and that the dealer was responsible for obtaining it.

Neither of these descriptions was a cited quote from actual Utah law books (though one was worded in legalese). Neither of these descriptions was dated.

Does anyone know what the true current Utah bike licensing law is? Do any of you have a bike license in Utah? I'd like a dated reference to the exact wording of the current law, if possible.

Update: I've answered my own question, at least with regards to bike license laws in Salt Lake County. Other counties may differ. It also says that every bike ridden in the county must be inspected and licensed. So if your dealer didn't do it already, the individual has to.

I've bought 3 bikes here, and haven't heard of it!

This has never been enforced, as far as I know. They used to do it at the fire stations, I don't think they still do, I think you have to go to the county sheriffs office. The theory is that it makes it easy to return a stolen bike to the owner. The fact is the paperwork goes in a filing cabinet and never again sees the light of day.

I've also heard that there's a license which allows you to use sidewalks in downtown areas, which are usually off-limits to bikes. I'm not having any luck finding more info. Have you heard anything about this?

p.s. Not that I want to ride on sidewalks, but on snowy days and during rush-hours, they're more navigable than the streets.

This is the first I've heard of it. Last I heard, bikes were off limits on the sidewalks in the central city area. I'd never consider riding the sidewalks with all the pedestrian traffic downtown. You'd have to stay at their speed to avoid them, and it would still be a challenge.

I had an un-licensed bike stolen, but had the serial no. and gave that to the police. About six months later the bike was retrieved from a pawn shop.

I don't know why anyone would care about the licenses they put on bikes, since they're just stickers that are easy to peel off. Just noticed these two licenses on the beater, both of which were on the bike when I bought it.
