Introductions - Hello from a living sauna, or the Houston area, same difference

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Actually, I'm a 41 yr old ex teacher from Pasadena, TX. If you've seen the movie Urban Cowboy, that's a story about Pasadena in it's nicer days. I used to ride road bikes and did a few Metric Centuries in my day but haven't been in the saddle for about 6 years since my last bike got stolen.

Now that I'm an ex teacher and have some time on my hands, I've got back into riding. I bought a Giant Cypress DX and I'm riding my creaky bones and monkey butt self about 10-15 miles a day. Given that it's 105 with ridiculous amounts of humidity 24/7, I figure it's like living in a sauna.

Why back in the saddle? I figure it's a chance to get some long missed sun, and a way to work off these 100 lbs I seemed to have found since I quit riding and started teaching.

I'm an avid stamp collector and have a wife that hates cycling as much as stamp collecting. :D When I start working again, a tandem is on my list of things to buy.

Welcome to the forums.

I started back riding about 4 years ago and have lost about 60 lbs since then and had a lot of fun.

I grew up in Clute, so I can identify with the sauna concept. On the other hand, if you're going to do anything outside, biking is a pretty good option; at least the air is moving when you bike.

It won't be long until you're cursing the cold, though.
