Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Browser User Agent ID recognition issues.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi, at the library to post this...
The bikeforums server seems to have a dislike for unfamiliar user agent IDs. I use a PDA which is perfectly capable of displaying webpage content,
however its seems that your server does not have any idea how to handle my nonstandard browser id, in other words, when it sees the id string of 'DSOrganize Web Browser' (mine) as opposed to a more orthodox 'Mozilla 5.0' or 'Netscape' or 'Opera' it just defaults me to a blank responce.

I would just alter my browser's user agent ID if I could, but seeing as how its on a PDA thats not something I can really do... to view the site lately I've had to use google languages as a 'proxy' of sorts.

I'd appreciate it if you edited your server settings so that when it comes across an unfamiliar browser type it just defaults to the same content as standard Mozilla tailored content. As opposed to outright rejection of the client...

Thanks

...yeah yeah...
if you use non-mainstream sofware its your own problem eh?
nevermind that its a dumb server policy to ignore unrecognized clients...

I hadn't noticed this thread. We are working on content managers and such for vB4 to render properly on microdevices. It's only a matter of time. Current stuff is either too clunky or doesn't support vB4. A lot of the graphics simply require standard client applications to work, as far as I am able to understand what they are telling me.

Ironically, attempts to 'skin' the forums for microdevices is what is causing my problems.
My browser is capable of supporting graphics and whatnot, the issue is rather that the server sees my agentID, doesn't recognize my device type since it is rather rare, and then doesnt know what to do thus it sends me no reply.
If the forums instead simply ignored the client type and provided the exact same 'skin' to everyone my problem would go away...
