Each state has a different type of sign for this, this is the actual sign most commonly used in PA for the "Share the Road" message. I am thinking of adding the yellow background to match the sign, on my other leg I'm going to do something Cranckset/chain related, but not for a little while.

Yes, the dumbing down of America is definitely creating some new business opportunities. Others include payday loan establishments, talk radio hosts, credit counseling, and auditory aids for those who have destroyed their hearing with ipods.
On the other calf........ this one-

Beyond that, the tat is cool..... and I don't say that about too many tats.

Wow, lots of tattoo hate here. I like your tat OP, but I'm also inked.
I like the simplicity of your bike design. Doing gears, spokes, etc on something like that would look cluttered and busy.

It's funny...the older I get, the more I realize I don't know anything, and the things I do know...my parents and grandparents knew better. I miss the days when I had answers.

Each state shouldn't have a sign. There are uniform national standards for traffic markings. That's the universal sign, which should be used everywhere in the US.

Not to turn this into a flame war between those who might get and do have them, and those who don't, but really, I decided I'll be biking for a good long time to come. I feel very strongly about the need for people to "share the road", and I like having it on my calf. It's not like I got my girlfriends name tattoed on my arm at 18 years old guys :) Anyway, I have been kicking around the idea of getting one, and the day I don't want this one would be the same day I decide I don't want to ride anymore, and I KNOW that day won't ever get here.
Now, I did ask what everyone thought, so I'm not invalidating any point of view here, just offering up a little of my rationale for getting it. (I'm 38, so I'm pretty much past the really stupid decisions in life, but I also know ya only live once, and I would find it terribly boring to do without ANY risk.)

Thanks, I am still kicking around if I'd like it better with the actual sign color background or not. I am going to give it at least a month or two before I decide, part of me likes it just basic black the way it is, but to have it be color correct for the sign would be pretty sweet too.

Sorry, not trying to come down on tattoos, only explaining why i don't want one.
There's any number of choices we make that can't be easily undone if at all, -whether it's getting a tattoo or something else. Some we might regret. With any luck, most we won't. Life goes on either way and you can't allow yourself to be paralyzed.
So, enjoy your new tat !

It's ok, I like hearing it all, if I were thin skinned I wouldn't have put a pic on the net and asked what people thought! :) For years I just didn't see the point to a tattoo, I always thought I'd like one, but just never found anything that I wanted stamped on me till I died. Since taking up riding, truly riding, it's pretty much saved my life (I was 299lbs with a resting heart rate of 105 in 2005 when I started riding). Now I'm in a lot better shape (216 with resting heart rate of 45), have a passion for cycling that hasn't even come close to fading, and love the way I get to work and home every day. Not many things change your life that way, and all that being said, I knew this was the right thing to do.

Another way to look at tattoos is that they're a visual and mostly permanent recording of your history. Even if in 20 years, you're not quite as into cycling as you are now, that doesn't invalidate this part of your life.
One could decide that they're going to get a tattoo every decade. Each tattoo would be representative of something important in your life at that time.
So while I have no huge drive to get a tattoo and probably never will, I can see some cool aspects to them.

My daughter has the PETA chick tattoo'd on her wrist in the black outline like yours. Every once in a while I color it in with a yellow Sharpie. Try it, maybe that will give you an idea how it would look.
Plenty of tat luv here - like the idea, but for stuff like that there are jerseys and signage you can remove each time you dismount.

I know, what's up with that??? Especially girls, do you really think you look better with a freaking mermaid on your back or rose on your ankle?
Perhaps you tat-haters should stop and tell them what to do with their body. As strongly as you feel about being tat-free, others like tats equally as much. You all sound like your grandparents.
I'd rather find out what the OP thinks 25 or 30 years from now....

I've been debating on what type of tat to get on my left calf. I'm thinking of something fairly large that takes up the rear and even front of the lower leg. It's going to be something that incorporates my two kids and my family heritage.
I'm already inked though so I know most of the huff and puff about it is from folks afraid of it, turned off by it or surrounded by bad tattoo artists. Everyone is different, celebrate it. I agree that some people are totally into certain things becuase they want to impress others or fit in or whatever, those do annoy me.

Nice tat! I'm tat-free, but that's only because I haven't decided on anything that I want to have impregnated in my skin permanently.
Each state shouldn't have a sign. There are uniform national standards for traffic markings. That's the universal sign, which should be used everywhere in the US.
And Canada, too! Of course, if it's universal, it should be worldwide (except maybe Antarctica).

Good point! :D
In the UK, Australia, Japan.....et-al, it should be on the other calf.
To each their own. Only if they agree with me.
No dumber than any other tattoos. That said, I'll argue the OP's right to have one any day. In the final analysis, I won't be getting one, but you can if you want. Just don't expect me to like yours.

Yeah tattoos are stupid but whatever floats your boat. Certainly looks better than most I've saw. Just don't get a million of them making yourself look like a freak.

Give it a break. Another thing our grandparents taught us was that we can have our own views and didn't have to listen to others either.
